Tile Capability
Summary: The People Search Tile enables users to effectively search for Office 365 profile cards within an Active Directory. The tile uses Microsoft Office 365 Delve to manage your Office 365 profiles, and to discover & organize searched information. The tile allows users to customize how search pages are displayed.
Why the People Search Tile? The tile allows users to easily organize how search pages are displayed. You can search for users from wide range of characteristics (phone, location, department, job title, etc.). Once users enter text from the user's indexed profile information, such as name, title or location, a People Search Page will open in the display option that was chosen.
What the People Search Tile has to offer: The People Search tile offers easy searches (for O365 profiles) within an active directory. It also offers display and performance customization. Pages will open in the display option that was chosen.

Tile Data Sources
The People Search Tile navigates to Office 365 (O365) Delve to access and display all O365 profiles within an active directory.
Office 365 Delve is a cloud-based solution that displays personal content. It is powered by Office Graph, which is essentially a database that collects information on user identity and activity. To learn more about Office 365 Delve, refer to the article that explains some of the features that Microsoft Office 365 Delve offers.
You can open Microsoft Delve by clicking on your profile picture located at the top right of your site screen, and clicking My Profile. Office 365 Delve manages Office 365 profiles, and helps users discover and organize information. To learn more about Office Delve, consider the following Microsoft articles:
View and update your profile
Connect and Collaborate in Delve
Are my documents safe in Delve?
How can I find people and information?
Group and share documents
Prerequisite SharePoint or Office 365 Configurations
Depending on your level of Microsoft Licensing the people search tile will link out to either a basic SharePoint profile or a Delve profile automatically. Therefore, there are no prerequisites for using the people search tile other than having a SharePoint environment for it to pull data from.
Best Practices
LiveTiles offers two iterations of people search, the people search tile and the people directory tile. While both exhibit the same functionality, pulling in profile information, they render it in different ways. The people search tile, as explained in this article, renders the information as a pop-up, while the people directory tile renders the profile information in-line.
Depending on that nature of the experience you are trying to create, one may be more suitable for your layout than the other.
We also recommend that users keep their profile information fairly up to date in order to ensure that the tile pulls in the most relevant information and can be used to its full capacity.
